Local Credit Unions Unite To Celebrate International Credit Union Day

Local credit unions came together today, October 15, 2020 to celebrate International Credit Union Day (ICU Day). The day was celebrated in a unique way this year with members of different credit unions coming together in one location to create awareness of the credit union movement and to encourage members of the public to join a credit union.
The event was coordinated by the Barbados Co-operative & Credit Union League Ltd and held in Upper Collymore Rock, St. Michael. Employees and volunteers from Lifetime Co-op, Bartel Credit Union, Public Transport Co-op, Endeavour Co-op, United Enterprise Co-op, B’dos Public Workers’ Co-op and B'dos Workers' Union Co-op all lined the roadway along Upper Collymore Rock handing tokens, promotional items and hand sanitizers to patrons as they passed by. Credit Unions were also encouraged to post to their social media pages using the hastags #icuday and #icuday246.
Credit Unions around the world celebrate ICU Day with fundraisers, open houses, contests, picnics, volunteering and parades all focused around one goal; to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions and other financial cooperatives are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged

International Credit Union (ICU) Day celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement's history, promote its achievements, recognize hard work and share member experiences. International Credit Union (ICU) Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948.
